The Astoria midi skirt is made of natural, soft wool and is hand-knit in Sri Lanka by skilled rural women. This skirt draws inspiration from the Astoria Column in Oregon. This monument is a unique work of art, and its spiral structure has inspired the twisted cable rib stitch that has been used in this skirt. In addition, the moss stitch that is used in the waistband perfectly complements the cable stitch to create this elegant midi-length skirt, that is cozy, full of warmth, and engenders ‘hygge’ – the state of being content. The side slits facilitate ease of movement and also add aesthetic to the skirt.
The Astoria midi skirt is made from 100% organic combed wool. The wool fibres have been sourced from Germany, while the yarn, which is GOTS certified, has been spun and dyed in a mill in Portugal that has been certified by the ISO 9001 Quality Standard since 2000.
The label is also made from 100% organic cotton.
The elastic used in the waistband is 100% natural and biodegradable, and consists of 65% organic cotton which is GOTS certified, and 35% natural rubber which is Oeko-Tex certified. The organic cotton has been sourced from Turkey, while the natural rubber has been sourced from Malaysia and the elastic has been manufactured in Austria. This elastic is plastic-free and comparatively has a longer lifespan than conventional elastic.
